Introduction

Greetings. For those of you reading this that do not know me, my name is Spirofighter; this is my story…

I am from a far away planet, long past the moon and stars and the reaches of this “Milky Way” galaxy, as it is referred to by these humans. My people are unlike the inhabitants of this Earth; the closest comparison for us from this language that I could find is that of a “dragon”. We are more than the crude beasts that word defines however; we have civilizations, networks, economies, language – many facets of what defines being intelligent, sentient, and organized life. Be this as it may however, life on my home is not ideal. My people associate with clans. We have hundreds of them, all with different ideals, lifestyles, and institutions that differentiate us as well as give us senses of community, of identity. As enriching as these differences are however, they do not help avoid conflict. Long has it been since my people have experienced peace. Our world has been in a state of constant warfare, with clans constantly battling for supremacy, for power, and for territory. Bloodshed and loss has come to define our lives; the only purpose for any of us these days is our duties as warriors to our clan. As the years have passed and our hopes for a peaceful future dwindled more and more, a call for action was taken. I was chosen by my clan, along with a class of 8 other scouts, to travel among the stars in search of other worlds like ours – that with life – and to observe and take note of the interactions and relations help by their inhabitants. Surely, we thought, there must be somewhere in this universe that beings could coexist and live in peace to an extent. After a long journey, one which left my wings sore and aching, I came across this planet. Earth. While I’ve been here for a short time, I’ve seen similarities between the people here and my own. However, while language, culture, and location have split both of our peoples, I do see a level of respect, of trust, of love among them that I have never experienced before. It gives me hope.

So, here on this planet I will stay for the time being, observing in silence from afar, chronicling my journeys and experiences here as I go. I hope you enjoy the journey.
